It was the first total solar eclipse in the United States in 38 years, a celestial phenomenon you might witness only once in a lifetime. We decided it was an event we couldn’t miss, so we drove more than 350 miles from our home in Boulder to camp in Riverton, Wyoming, within the “path of totality.” The spectacle was absolutely incredible. The temperature dropped 20 degrees as the sky darkened and stars came out. It was beautiful, emotional, exciting, transcendent. As the moon moved away from the sun, and light returned to our small patch of the world, the love of my life got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. What an incredible way to start a life together. The stars had aligned. And I said yes.
