(Or, How to Tastefully Show Off Your Gorgeous New Engagement Ring!)
The first few weeks and months after your engagement can feel pretty hectic. From the sheer volume of social pings and celebratory lunches and cocktails, to researching, spreadsheet/matrix making, and locking down venues and vendors, your life may seem to essentially revolve around being newly engaged, planning a wedding, and trying not to get fired from your actual job for a while (or maybe a year, give or take). But once the date is set and the venue is booked, the next thing you and your honey will need to do is send out a save-the-date to make sure all the people you love will be able to make it to your special day. AND this is a great opportunity to tastefully show off your new bling (!).
Most experts recommend sending out your save-the-date 6-8 months prior to the wedding, or earlier if possible for a ceremony and celebration that will require international travel (note to self: renew passports!) or for a wedding that takes place over multiple days or on a holiday weekend. To truly nail your save-the-date, you’ll need a little prep-time, but this brief wedding communiqué should be relatively low-key compared to the wedding invitation itself. Save-the-dates are an excellent opportunity to set the tone for your wedding, but they by no means need to be as formal. Give as much info as you can at the time of printing, but don’t worry if you don’t have all the specifics. Eight to six months out, all your guests really want to know is whether they’re definitely invited, what airport they’ll be flying in to, whether they need passports and/or vaccinations, and what days they will be expected to attend.
You can read all about the ins-and-outs of save-the-date etiquette on The Knot or Martha Stewart, but for the fun part, it’s time to show off your new engagement ring! We’ve curated a Pinboard full of fab save-the-date ideas to incorporate your engagement ring, but here are our top three picks:
- For the Wordsmith – Nothing says loooooove like a cozy night of Scrabble by the fire, so why not show your appreciation for the written word with your save-the-date? Double word score for using ring in “our,” and the verbiage will make your guests feel more included!
- Ring Marks the Spot – Planning a destination wedding by land or sea? Consider a treasure hunt-themed save-the-date where the ring marks the spot of your nuptials. Your love truly is a treasure worth planning for. . . <sigh>
- Hook Line and Sinker – For the sporting pair, show the world you’re truly hooked when you spring for a personalized, engraved sinker, and use it as your save-the-date. Sure, it’s a little sad that there are two fewer fish in the sea, but the people who love you most will understand 🙂
From incorporating your fur baby to showcasing your shared love of coffee, wine or nature, we’ve found a save-the-date idea that incorporates your fab new engagement ring, so be sure to check out our Pinboard “Save the Date Ideas Using Your Engagement Ring“—we’ll add more as we find them.
